Interesting Email Chain - Proves the current problem could be fixed, inexpensively, within budget and quickly. Also the board is apparently talking to the "selected" contractor and getting them to change the information they are providing to active Board Members.

Brian, my name is Art McRoberts and am a member of the BOD here in Carolina Lakes. Paul presented a PP presentation for the new gate at the entrance for the BOD and I considered it as that would fill our needs after 3 months of dealing with a broken gate. I do have one question about our current system. With our new gate that you would be installing, could our current system (with our cards we currently own) be compatible with the new gate? That is, could we keep using our old system for entering the new gate? Thanks in advance for your information. Art

Thanks for your questions, YES
if I'm understanding you correctly you're asking about the hardware currently at the gates? Controllers, Readers, software, etc... the current database that's in place could control any type of barrier arm (gate). Access Control Systems are designed to trigger outputs that can control what ever we design it to operate. ie ... doors, gates, lights, sirens. We have proposed Updating your Access Control system along with new gate arms, all new wequipment. We could, however, update the hardware (Controller and Software) and still use the Readers you have, thus allowing you to continue to use your old Access Cards. It would consist of programming the cards into the New Database and configuring the card format. We would have had to do that with the RFID Readers and tags as well. Or we could just install new gate arms and not replace your Access Control System. Now with that being said. the support agreement that we've proposed would change based on the fact that the Access Control system and Software are Old and not warrantied. We would have to recalculate the number of hours proposed for the Service Agreement, the hourly rate would be the same.

I hope this anwsers your question. If we can help with anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks, Brian Barney

I am sending an e-mail I received from Brian Barney, the contractor picked by our Security Committee for the new gates at the entrance. I had asked Mr Barney (as seen below) would it be possible to just replace the broken gate and use our current system using our current cards. Please read his answer. About 7 days later I received another e-mail from Mr Barney recanting the e--mail he sent below. I find this highly suspect and am sure his e-mail [above] is correct. I have two other people that live in CL who knows our current system and they agree. All: we, our community, borrowed a huge amount of money from the road reserves (I have concerns this might have been an illeagle action on the BODs part) that has yet to be repaid. Now some Board Members want to spend $100,000 (of which only $30,000 has been budgeted) to replace the gates and all the readers and software. I do not consider this being good stewards of other peoples money. Please give this serious thought when you vote tomorrow night (and take into consideration the POs concerns).

I don't know Mr. Barney, but I do know he has been communicating with others and has stated in writing, that there is no reason not to simply replace the broken gate, and we do not need to replace the entire system. To recant these "facts" a short time later - stinks to high heaven of manipulation by closed minded, self interest first individuals within the Board's ranks. Looks like his company should not get any Carolina Lakes work and the individual who asked him to recant his "testimony" should be relieved from the board. Corruption - to say the least.

Art,

With all due respect, all of this ignores the fact that our current gate system is barely a step above NOTHING! Swiss cheese is less porous than our current gate system. [Editor: Completely not true and ililistrates the problem with board members not knowing, or being told the truth.]

I sat through 4 years of monthly POA meetings where 99% of the complaints were about security or rather the lack thereof. Our security is a joke.

The gates are currently the most visible aspect but we have plenty more to do. They are finally getting the attention they deserve. We both know that unplanned and unfortunate, board turn over as well as Mr. Humm’s death were contributing factors to our lack of improvements in security. However, the primary PO frustration with the board is that these issues drag on and on and on and on.  The Security committee is currently focused on trying to bring some closure to a long festering problem.

Repairing the CURRENT gate system will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to improve our security. [Editor: Wrong, just fix them within the current budget, easy, quick and fiscally sound.]

Allen
